The RIMI-02 Rimfire is the standard issue mecha for the Army of New America. It is also the mech you will most likely be assigned to after you graduate boot camp. Therefore, it is in your best interests to know as much as possible about your weapon before your committed to combat operations.
The 02 Rimfire specifications were laid out with one thing in mind... to keep you alive. Yes, its also an offensive weapon, but we can build a new Rimfire for you in weeks... it takes 18 years to make a soldier, and that doesnt include the time and money to train you.
The Rimfire carries two main weapon systems, the Mangler multi function Rifle and the Thunder missle pack. Your Rimfire carries two Thunder missles in each leg. These missles can be fired singly or in pairs, and are your longest range weapons. Unlike the Swarm Packs carried by the draftees of FIST, Thunder missles have a longer range and do almost twice as much damage and have an blast radius of 150 meters. In the hands of a skilled pilot, these 4 missles are capable of seriously damaging your counterpart in a IMI-11 Pounder even before you bring the Mangler into play. Their large area of effect is also well suited for disrupting the tight formations prefered by FIST doctrine, or for destroying enemy camps and fortifications.
Your Mangler MFR is your close in weapon, with two modes. Your primary mode is as a rapid fire cannon capable of 150 rounds per second. This weapon does enough damage to degrade and eventually blow away even the refined armor of Grenadier, Sniper, and Marquis class units. It is NOT, however, capable of damaging the IMC-05 Marshals fielded by their superior officers. If your unit finds yourself facing one of these, keep your cool and listen to the orders of your fire team leader. He carries weapons heavy enough to defeat the Marhsal's reactive shielding, and your Shaffer shield will protect you from the effects of its Devestator ADM's. The Manglers alternate mode provides you with an anti missle defense. If for any reason your Fire control system wants control, let it have it... there are probobly missiles targeted on you that you havent noticed!
Assuming that the enemy has survived to reach hand to hand combat range, there is a Vibra sword stored on the back of your Shaffer shield unit. Inside the handle is a powerful generator which mates to power leads in your Rimfire's right hand, energizing the blade. This generator creates a powerful vibration in the blade, allowing it to cut through enemy armor like a knife through hot butter. If for some reason you do find yourself in hand to hand combat, remember to parry his attacks with your shield where possible, not with your weapon. While he is buzy trying to chew through your defenses, attack his head or right arm whenever possible... destroying either of those locations will disable HIS weapon, or otherwise take him out of the fight.
Because of the myriad of terrain here on New America, you may be called to fight in almost any weather. Unlike your counterpart, your Rimfire is equally at home in all environments from the Deep of space, to under the sea. These environments might seem hostile to those of you who have never encountered them before, but remain calm, listen to your officers, and trust in your Rimfire Mecha and you will soon be celebrating our victory over the crushing grip of FIST.
