The IMI-11 Pounder is the standard mass production unit of the FIST military.  Niether heavily armed, nor armored, and piloted by youths serving their mandatory time in uniform, the Pounder is desgined to be used en-mass, rather than in a one on one duel.

Because its a mass produced unit, pains were taken to try and keep costs down.  Its primary weapon is the Hellfire Mulit function Laser, an all purpose weapon, backed up with a pair of small missle packs and a beam sabre.  Its armor is average, at best, and lacks the improved damage resistance of suits assigned to more senior personell.  The most glaring weakness of the Pounder is the fragility of the Hellfire system, as a single penetrating hit can render the weapon useless.

Dispite the well known feeling in the higher ranks that Pounder pilots are faceless masses to be used and then thrown away when no longer needed, FIST designers have at least paid lip service to pilot safety, designing an ejection system that will blow the whole head clear of the mecha if an ejection is required.  This allows a pilot to abandon a mech without being exposed to a hostile battlefield... in theory, anyway.

Due to the large numbers of conditions in which units are assigned, the stock pounder contains no environmental protection.  Once a pounder is shiped to a location which requires such protection for reliable operation, it is outfitted with a light set of command armor which provides the additional protection needed.

Fist Doctrine is to group 4 Pounders into a fire team, commanded by a corporal in a Grenadier.  3 fire teams make up a Squad, commanded by a seargent, and 3 squads make up a company.  Companies are commanded by a Lieutenant or Captain in a Marquis, assisted by a senior NCO in either a Grenadier or a Sniper, for a unit strength of 50 suits per company.  FIST Mecha battations consist of 3 companies and are commanded by a Major or Lt. Colonel, while Regiments consist of 3 Battations of Mecha plus support units such as MP's, mechanics, cooks, engineers, and so on.  Divisions have 3 mecha regiments, 1 air regiment, 1 support regiment to provide the extra logistcal support, plus one Transport regiment capable of delivering the Division, plus supplies, to any planet in Fist's grip in condition to fight immediatly after disembarking.  In theory, this 3 to one ratio applies to larger groups such as corps and armies, and  every division is assigned to a corps group and an army.  In practice however, due to the the lack of a powerfull common enemy, political infighting, and the large area controlled by each Corps and army group, these powerfull units exist only on paper, and existing divisions are never concentrated into these formations.  In fact, prior to this time, a division has been the largest force ever deployed by FIST against anyone.
